Our History
Alaska Family Health & Birth Center (AFH&BC) is a non-profit under Via Vita Health Project, Inc..
Since its establishment in 1988's, its purpose has been to provide health care, perinatal instruction and other education and services surrounding the perinatal period, including education and training of health care workers. AFH&BC has provided families living in Alaska with safe and high-quality maternity and well-woman care. We are the longest standing birth center in Fairbanks, Alaska. We have assisted families in nearly 3 thousand out-of-hospital births they desired, whether in the privacy and comfort of our facility or in the intimacy of their homes.
Our Facility
We are licensed by the state of Alaska, and CABC accredited, ensuring that we are practicing the highest quality of care. AFH&BC is a true community-based Birth Center that has served generations of families in Alaska. These very families helped to fund and build our current facility, which opened in 2012. Babies born into the hands of our midwives are now returning to have babies of their own in our decidated Birth Center which has 4 private, spacious birth suites.
