Maternity Care
AFH&BC offers a safe alternative to families seeking maternity care in Interior Alaska. We provide the option of out-of-hospital birth to women expecting a normal pregnancy and delivery. The midwifery model of care provides mothers with information and knowledge to help themselves remain healthy and low risk. Midwives work together with each woman and her family to meet individual needs. The services we provide are:
- Free Consultation
- Free pregnancy testing
- Complete prenatal care
- Lab work-ups
- Nutrition guidance
- Childbirth preparation classes
- Labor and delivery (home or birth center)
- Newborn exam and PKU testing
- Postpartum follow-up
- Home visits
- Breastfeeding help
- GYN services
Appropriate education contributes to a positive birth experience by preparing the family for the physical and emotional aspects of the childbearing cycle.
We offer a Childbirth Preparation Class which covers subjects such as pregnancy, labor birth and postpartum.
We also offer a Postpartum Support Group which meets every other week.
